FAQ

Trial Sessions and Paying for Tuition
Upon receiving an enquiry, Maths Blast will schedule a free initial consultation to discuss goals and needs of the student. Pellegrino tuition will then offer to arrange a trial session for you/your child.
The trial session will be invoiced for separately from any future lessons so that there is no big financial commitment before the student has had a chance to work with the tutor.
After the trial session, if you/your child decide to go ahead with tuition, Maths Blast will invoice you at the start of the month for all lessons in the month.
The current rate is £36 per lesson.
You’ll find payment instructions on the invoice.

What do I / does my child need for lessons?
Lessons are now online so you / your child will need a device connected to the internet.
Ideally, a computer or laptop, but tablets also work. Phones might be too small. If a phone is
your only option, let the tutor know so that they can plan for a small screen.
In terms of equipment, you / your child will usually need:
- Squared paper
- A book or folder to keep tuition work in and refer back to
- Pencil, rubber and sharpener (if primary) or pen (if preferred or secondary / adult
learner)
- Scientific Calculator (secondary / adult learner only)
- Ruler
In addition, you / your child may need:
- Protractor
- Compass
If you / your child will need anything extra for any one lesson, Maths Blast will let you know in advance.
What’ the minimum commitment?
After the trial session, the minimum commitment for tuition is one lesson per week. This is because improvement requires consistency and lessons less frequent than ones a week are not enough for students to benefit fully from one-to-one tuition.
However, some students choose to have more than one lesson per week.
All lesson are one hour long.

What happens if a lesson is missed?
Maths Blast will not cancel scheduled sessions unless under serious extenuating circumstance. Should Maths Blast need to cancel a scheduled, paid-for session, the
client will have one of the following options:
1) Reschedule the lesson for a different day. Maths Blast will also make available some out of office hours if necessary.
2) Ask for the lesson to be reimbursed.
3) Ask for the price of the lesson to be taken off the following invoice.
Students are expected to attend all lessons. If you know in advance you/your child are/is not
going to be able to attend a lesson because, for example, of a scheduled holiday, please let Maths Blast know prior to the invoice for the month of the week in question being issued. Maths Blast will then ask you whether you’d like to rearrange that week’s lesson(s) for a different day (if possible given current availability) or if you’d like for it to be taken off the invoice.
If you/your child has to skip a session because of unforeseen extenuating circumstances, please let Maths Blast know as soon as possible and Maths Blast will do their absolute best to let you/your child catch the lesson up on a different day. Mind this may not be possible, especially in peak periods like ahead of exams. If rearranging the lesson is not possible, depending on the exceptionality and seriousness of the circumstances under which the lesson was missed, Maths Blast may judge appropriate to take the price of the session off the following invoice. This is at Maths Blast, not at the request of the client.
If a lesson is missed because you/your child forgot about it and this is not a regular occurrence, Maths Blast might be able to offer you/your child another time to catch the lesson up. Please understand that this depends on current availability and therefore may not always be possible. Also understand that Maths Blast will not tolerate for lessons to be regularly missed and asked to be rearranged. The expectation should be that a lesson missed without a good excuse is a lesson lost that cannot be rearranged or reimbursed. However, Maths Blast understand that, children are still learning to keep themselves organised and therefore that lessons can occasionally get forgotten about. So, they will try to help by offering a catch up time, whenever possible and at their discretion.

Cancelling Tuition
When you decide that you no longer require tuition for yourself or your child, all you have to do is inform Maths Blast of your intention of interrupting tuition. Since lessons are paid for at the start of the month, the student will be able to finish the month if they wish
but you will not be charged for any following months.
