Rufus Roberts

Barbara has had a passion for teaching for as long as she can remember. After obtaining a degree in physics from the University of Nottingham, Barbara was awarded a scholarship from the Institute of Mathematics to train as a secondary maths teacher.

As a trainee teacher, Barbara gained a deep understanding of the school mathematics curriculum. Upon completing her teacher training, Barbara worked briefly as a classroom teacher. During that time, she realized that the school system placed too much emphasis on getting pupils through qualifications, often at the expense of helping them discover and truly learn mathematics.

Finding herself unable to compromise, Barbara left her position as a secondary maths teacher. Since then, she has worked as a private tutor, teaching maths from primary level to A-level for both children and adults. Barbara strongly believes that anybody can learn to think like a mathematician, and she is determined to help all her students achieve just that.

Barbara’s lessons are kept informal to help even the most nervous students relax and enjoy the process of learning. Thanks to her methods, Barbara’s students have made amazing progress.

Rufus studied Maths at The University of Liverpool. While there he joined the Maths Busking project which fused maths and street entertainment.

Rufus then went on to deliver his own workshops in schools and for The Royal Institution of Great Britain.
After university he managed a branch of a Mad Science franchise where he realised he could fuse his interactive maths with and afterschool club formula.

Working with vulnerable people has always been a passion for Rufus and he's spent time delivering sessions to rough sleepers, refugees and children excluded from school.

Rufus has delivered maths across the world. A personal highlight was delivering a summer camp to Syrian refugees in Akkar, Lebanon.

Rufus believes Maths should be something investigative that should be explored and not just drilled.
